An exploration of American Material Culture in the collection of Vermont’s Shelburne Museum.

This exhibition of photographic prints, objects and motion pictures is the result of a two year project working with the collections at Shelburne Museum. The project started out in a very straightforward way, when I asked Curator Carolyn Bauer if anyone ever created new work from objects in the permanent collection. My idea was to photograph objects on film and print them on paper using Cyanotype. The images were meant to be somewhat documentary, possibly humorous and/or ironic and to encourage the viewer to see these objects in a new way. Some images in the exhibition fit that description. What I didn’t expect was to create collaged images in a whole new way, or to include photographic objects like hatboxes and a quilt, and I certainly wasn’t thinking about Cyanimation Moving Pictures. The finished exhibition is so much more than I imagined at the start. Working with the collection at Shelburne has changed my work (both my approach and the result) forever. 
I hope the viewer gets as much out of viewing the work on exhibit as I did creating it!
